If you are like me and you shoot a lot of videos in the field, in offices, studios, etc. you probably CRAVE for a wireless mic solution that… actually works! Not so long ago truly reliable wireless mic solutions were either VERY expensive or they were leaving a lot to be desired. Fortunately, that has changed.
The freedom wireless mics give is absolutely incredible. I love them because cables can be so messy and cable management is always a concern, very often a huge PITA! Boya just gave us a wireless mic that really works well! You can see it in the video – I walked as far as 380ft away and – as long as I was maintaining a clear line of sight – the audio was clear, no distortion, no breaking up. Wow!
We were recording this to a Zoom H1n but thanks to the 3.5mm jack on the receiver you can stick it directly to your camera, many other popular sound recorders, or with an adapter cord into your iPhone, or Android phone – you name it. I will be comparing this mic to other wireless microphones soon but for now, I am really pleased with the way this sounds!
Set up and operation couldn’t be easier. Take it out of the packaging, connect the receiver to your sound recorder or camera, and press a button on it to turn on. Press another button on the microphone and… that’s all, you’re ready to go. This comes pre-paired and in my so far experience, the mics (there were two in the set we got) ALWAYS connect to the receiver as soon as they are on.
So far I have not found anything to complain or anything I would prefer to be done differently with this set. I appreciate the compact size, the instant readiness, the rechargeable battery and most of all the amazing range! We are still testing the noise reduction and reliability in a busier environment that is maybe more prone to interference so stay tuned for updates!
